To date, “The Teaching of Buddha” has been translated into 44 languages and has been distributed to about 7.7million copies and to more than 60 countries (April 2009).
In 2008 BDK funded the establishment of the Mugen Project Foundation, an electronic Buddhist text and research initiative, which when completed will allow anyone to browse the database for Buddhist materials available in English or other major languages on the internet.
Since the late Rev. Dr. Yehan Numata made the sincere vow for the distribution of “The Teaching of Buddha” to the world, about 7.7million copies have been published and distributed to more than 60 countries.
BDK has the English translation project of the Buddhist Canon which began in January 1982, when Rev. Dr. Yehan Numata, established the Editorial Committee. The Editorial Committee selected for 139 works the first stage of its project, which amounted to one-tenth of the entire canon.
BDK has established the Numata Program in Buddhist Studies program at leading universities in North America and Europe as one of its main projects to promote and introduce Buddhism to the world.
The scholarship aims at the promotion of international cooperation and mutual understanding in Buddhist studies, and is intended to enable researchers to engage in research on Buddhism while in Japan.
